Murray postgame quotes

Terry Murray’s postgame thoughts…

(on whether he knew Bernier was 0-5 in shootouts in the AHL…)
MURRAY: “Some things are best not known. (laughs)”

(on Bernier’s game, particularly rebound control…)
MURRAY: “He’s a very talented young man, and he has worked hard this year to get his game to a good level and having good success. The opportunity and the preparation came together here tonight, and I really liked what I saw.”

(on whether he thought Bernier was nervous…)
MURRAY: “I didn’t have a sense of that. The nice thing about Bernier, in my mind, is that he had a taste of the NHL two years ago. He had a half a dozen games and that, to me, is a nice experience to go through. Go get organized, get your game in place and be ready when your next opportunity comes up.”

(on taking Bernier back to L.A….)
MURRAY: “It makes sense to take him back, and just make sure that everything is good with the Quick family. We’ll address things tomorrow.”

(on a big win in the playoff race…)
MURRAY: “Well, this was a game in hand against Phoenix, for us, and it ties us now with them, even in games. So the two points were very big. Your goal is to make the playoffs at the start of the year, and each time you are able to put a point up — two points tonight — it’s heading toward accomplishing your goal.”

(on Modin’s goal…)
MURRAY: “A great shot. It’s a big-bodied guy. Modin is so big and so strong that once he gets his position established in front of the net, you’re not going to be able to move him. It doesn’t matter who you are. He gets into that tripod like that, and defending players are just going to have to make adjustments in their situations like that. Great shot, great tip.”

(on Williams’ game…)
MURRAY: “I liked it. I thought he played pretty good. He handled the puck quite well, comfortably. Tried to do his normal things with the puck in the offensive zone. I was pleased with what I saw.”

    A great night. Kings win. Quacks lose. (in a shutout)

  2. Bob Bobson says:

    Murray really seems to have a good feel for the situations Modin excels in. I wonder if this is post-trade adrenaline for Modin that will fade or if he will continue like this through the rest of the season and hopefully the playoffs.

    It only makes sense to bring Bernier to LA. Maybe the Kings get another look at him ?

  3. #1faninvegas says:

    I have to admit, when the Kings fired Crawford I was disappointed, because two seasons rebuilding doesnt give a coach great opportunity to succeed!! However, after watching TM and seeing how he acts, TM is a great coach, one of the best Ive seen in a long time for the Kings. I agree with everything TM says here. I agree with what he does, and even when he say Fro out at the beginning of the year. Thank you, Terry Murray for being a great coach and doing very well with this young club. In TM we trust is right!!!! Thank you!!!

  4. Bob Bobson says:

    @#1faninvegas, TM is a much better coach in terms of attitude and patience for a young team than Crawford was. Plus, TM teaches defense better. I almost wonder why DL did not go right to TM in the first place. TM was even in the PHI organization when we had Crawford.

  5. Jonathan says:

    Boy, I knew this since I went to school in Dallas but visiting teams really benefit from Love Field’s proximity to American Airlines Center.

    Our boys are already in the air home, approximately 80 minutes after leaving the ice.

  6. #1faninvegas says:

    @Bob Bobson,

    I agree!!! I see that now, but when I read they fired Crawford, I was upset. Now, it’s totally different!!!

  7. Dayman says:

    Damn DD played just over 30 mins. Wow

  8. Tuan Jim says:

    Why is Phoenix in number 4 position and we’re in number 5?

    Tied in points, wins, number of games played, have gained more points head-to-head (though that’s not complete), and have a better goal differential.

    Howcum they’re listed ahead?

  9. #1faninvegas says:

    @Tuan Jim,

    I dont remember how the points go, when its tied. I used too, but with all the changes the NHL has done as of late. I don’t really know for sure!!!

  10. McDonalds says:

    @#1faninvegas,

    I wasn’t upset, but i was certainly surprised when they fired Crawford

  11. Kings win, Ducks lose says:

    @Tuan Jim, Maybe because they got there first? But don’t worry, Phoenix has 4 home & 11 road with 15 to play… We have 9 home & 6 road… Advantage LAK!

  12. #1faninvegas says:

    @#1faninvegas and McDonalds,

    Sometimes, I get really into typing and what Im saying, I dont double check my work!!! LOL!!! Say Fro out…. was supposed to be “SAT FRO out….!!! sorry!!

    Now, McDs’ I was upset, cuz they were rebuilding, and he was a coach who led a team to a cup, who was already built at that time. How can you expect a coach to lead a rebuilding team to the play-offs?? You really can’t!! It takes awhile to get the core together for what you need. Like DL said “He was a seller, had to sell most of the team, to get the Kings up and be developed. So, how could MC lead the team, when everyone is new or getting traded away?? It was a huge surprise, and I disagreed with the move, and was like I said, upset!! Seeing TM now…..its totally opposite. TM is a great coach. I knew that, 25 games into last year. Yes, I was sad we didnt make the play-offs, last year, but atleast, we didnt start great and falter near the playoffs like we did with Andy Murray!!

  13. kluka68 says:

    @Tuan Jim, If two or more clubs are tied in points during the regular season, the standing of the clubs is determined in the following order:

    1.The fewer number of games played (i.e., superior points percentage).
    2.The greater number of games won.
    3.The greater number of points earned in games between the tied clubs. If two clubs are tied, and have not played an equal number of home games against each other, points earned in the first game played in the city that had the extra game shall not be included. If more than two clubs are tied, the higher percentage of available points earned in games among those clubs, and not including any “odd” games, shall be used to determine the standing.
    4.The greater differential between goals for and against for the entire regular season.

  14. luckyluc13 says:

    ESPN shows the Kings at 4th.They have the next tiebreaker..Head to head

  15. #1faninvegas says:

    @kluka68,

    Thank you!! I needed to know myself!!

  16. McDonalds says:

    @#1faninvegas,

    i dont think those changes kick in until next yer

  17. DougS says:

    @Bob Bobson,
    I have wondered that myself, looking back on it. The only reason I can think of is that when Crawford was hired, the Kings were still relying heavily on what DL called the “bridge” veterans. The young core wasn’t quite in place at that time (e.g., no one knew Quick and Simmonds were going to get so good so fast). When the “bridge” veterans began to fall away, it was painfully apparent that he was not the right coach going forward.

    That’s the only thing I can think of.

  18. puckstopper27 says:

    @LBlocal,

    I was actually pulling for the Ducks tonight. They can’t catch us, Nashville can.

  19. Little Willy says:

    @#1faninvegas, terry murray has a very positive attitude and he injected that into the kings young core !! even though i don t agree with him on everything it doesen t mean i don t like the chap!! i think he very well may deliver us to the promise land indeed!! only the future holds the answer to that!!! at the very least keep in the organization as a mentor anyways !! very intelligent student of the game of hockey!!!

  20. #1faninvegas says:

    @DougS,

    I never looked at it that way!! You probably, nailed the nail in the coffin!!!

  21. Lepper says:

    3 teams tied for 3, 4, 5. Vancouver, Phoenix, & Kings at 85 pts. Should be interesting!

  22. #1faninvegas says:

    @Little Willy,

    TRUE!!! There have been questionable things indeed, but overall, far better than MC and AM!!! I liked Andy Murray, but I was starting to be disappointed in his coaching habits, when we did great in the beginning of the season, and than faltered at the end of the season. TWO SEASONS STRAIGHT THAT HAPPEND!!! WTH!!! I was scared watching the Kings this season, cuz they started off great….I was afraid of a repeat to a degree of the AM era, but part of me always knew, TM would keep us up to the task and make the play-offs, and boy, am I glad that part of me, a big part of me knew, that this year it was Kings time. I am surprised at the way we played this year!! Every game is exciting!! I mean EVERY game. Even when we are off our system, and playing like 3 year olds, we are playing great, and still exciting to watch. =)

  23. #1faninvegas says:

    @Lepper,

    although the Kings and Pheonix will not be getting 3rd place….it’s good for the whole NHL standings!! So, ya, it will be interesting!!!

  24. Little Willy says:

    @#1faninvegas, totally agree!! everytime it looked like omg here we go again!! same old kings!! we completely turned it around!! must be tm calming effect he has on the players !! i m actually having guilty feelings about questionning him in the first place now!! lmao

  25. Copper10-8 says:

    @Jonathan,

    That’s good stuff Joanathan, thanks!

  26. Copper10-8 says:

    @Copper10-8,

    Jonathan, sorry

  27. Old Codger says:

    @kluka68, Points suck. Wins should count.
    Tie breaker #3 is the killer. LA/Ph have played 5 games, two in LA, 3 in Phoenix. Although the Kings have more wins, more head-to head goals, the first game played in phoenix was a 5-3 King win. Those are the two points that don’t count in the tie-breaker. After they play the next one in LA, it will count. (as a tie-breaker).

  28. Old Codger says:

    @Old Codger, And phoenix will have to win by 2 goals for the 4th tie-breaker to be in their favor.

  29. Mike L says:

    @Lepper,

    Vancouver will get the 3 seed because they will win their division.

  30. #1faninvegas says:

    @Little Willy,

    That’s why I am a big TM supporter, and agree with all of his decisions. Even if Jones is horrible, TM knows there is a piece to him that fits the puzzle. He gives players multiple chances to shine. (ex: Teddy Purcell) If they don’t he sends them packing!! Kings coachs and GMs of old, if one player sucks twice, they get traded. I like this new system, this strategy, this team. Im glad to see a team support each other. I am against getting a goal scorer, because I feel, the team, will rely on that scorer and not play as a team. I believe in what they are doing!! Therefore, I support TM and DL 100%. I LOVE LA!!!

  31. Kris says:

    Just watching Kings replay after that Las Vegas Wranglers “girl scout” uniform game. Oh and bako, only got warm up pix. No real fights in the girl scout jerseys. Don’t quite know how to get you the 1 so so pick I got other than email. My email is gangakris@aol.com (only way I know of to send as I’m not as net savvy as others here). Everyone else… um forget that I posted that. (or atleast don’t spam me) LMAO

  32. #1faninvegas says:

    @Kris,

    Who won the Wranglers game tonight?

  33. Kris says:

    @#1faninvegas, We did by 1. Our moron coach played “shut down” with a 2 goal lead starting the 3rd forgetting that it is the “most dangerous lead in hockey”. Also Madill was having a bad game, so he got more ice time. We got lucky.

  34. Little Willy says:

    @#1faninvegas, lol!! i remember when they traded larry murphy for old Brian Engblom to washington because Larry was coughing up the puck sometimes!! awful trade indeed!! same with Darryl Sydor!! did u kno we traded a pick that became Ray Bourque for goalie Ron Grahame!!!!or a pick that became Phil Housley for washed up Jerry Korab!!!! or was it Rick MARTIN who played a total of 3 games!!!!! LOMBARDI is changing all that !! thank GOD!!!

  35. #1faninvegas says:

    @Kris,

    GOOD!!! Atleast we got a W

  36. #1faninvegas says:

    @Little Willy,

    YA, Im glad this is coming to an end. Like I said, Im glad to have a coach and a GM, that knows what they are doing!! LOL!!

  37. billanthony says:

    @Lepper,

    What’s looking good for the Kings is that down the stretch they have 3 more home games than on the road. While Phoenix will be playing 7 more road games than home. Time for the Kings to take advantage of that home ice advantage.

  38. Little Willy says:

    @#1faninvegas, Nice chatting with ya MR Vegas!!!till sunday i guess!! and remember what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas!!!! like u never heard that one before!!! LOL

  39. #1faninvegas says:

    @Little Willy,

    LOL…..ya, even made a movie bout it!!! Good night….chat again Sunday Lil Willy

  40. Mike L says:

    Bernier was the performer of the night on NHL On The Fly

  41. roadtripper says:

    @#1faninvegas, Crawford’s only real success was inheriting a team (Quebec/Colorado) that was already stacked and ready to win the cup! You or I could have taken that team all the way. Mark my words, he’ll NEVER take a new young team and do what TM is doing with the Kings, NEVER!

    GO KINGS GO!!!

  42. #1faninvegas says:

    @roadtripper,

    I agree…but at that time, it was just bothersome to me. Now, I agree in TM was the better decision. and I agree there too:

    GO KINGS GO

  43. McSorelyfan says:

    @#1faninvegas, No, we didn’t make the playoffs last year, but I knew from early in the season lawst year that we had something rare and excellent with #8. First time in forever I had seen a King dive into a corner scrum, emerge with the puck, take off toward the neutral zone, and CARRY the puck deep, protecting it, consistranetly, as opposed to mostly dumping and hoping. But most importantly for me, in March of last year we were still competing as opposed to buying tickets to Hawaii for vacation… I hadn’t seen that level of hockey in Staples Center in years.

  44. Dominick says:

    @#1faninvegas,
    Wow! #1 your post genarated its own thread.I was of the opinion that the Kings couldn’t get Crawford out quick enough.Especially with the way he kept playing Cloutier.Heck! It was his backing that brought that guy here to begin with.I was leary of TM only because I thought the Kings missed out on Quenville.
    Although earlier in the season I felt TM was taking too long to make adjustments during games,He has really come through as the seasons progressed.I also didn’t agree with him calling out Fro in the Media earlier in the season,because I thought during that time that line was our best line,and with his usually calm demeanor it seemed out of caracter,and seemed to signal to some fans that Fro was a screw up and on the chopping block.Maybe he was,I don’t know,but it should have been handled in house,not in the media.
    All in all TM has made me proud to be a Kingsfan,and has earned my respect on a job well done,and a well coached season.

  45. Dominick says:

    @Tuan Jim, If we meet Pheonix in the first round I’d rather they get home ice,so we could sweep them and send them home in game 4 from LA.That way LA fans can bare witness to the all important hand shake send off in person.

  46. Dominick says:

    @Kris, Did their panties show with the girl scout skirts.LOL

  47. One thing the Dallas announcers mentioned last night was a quote, that I think they said was from Nick Nickson, talking about Drew (paraphrasing): “This kid will be the last King to wear #8.” Sweet.

  48. Buster says:

    @Kris,

    If there would had been a fight with those girl scout uniforms, I would have been cracking up with flashbacks of Airplane! in my head.

  49. PUCKBOY25 says:

    @KingsFanSince74-75,
    I heard them say that too, they also had nothing but nice things to say about the KINGS and the direction they are heading…..

  50. AZ King says:

    @Dayman

    Yeah, but I’m a little worried about him. He hasn’t seemed like himself over the couple of games. I’m sure the fatigue has got to be setting in by now. He kind of dodged the fatigue question when Heidi asked him about it, but I’m sure it’s getting to him.

  51. Andrew says:

    @AZ King, Totally agree. Just one more game and then the boys get a few days off. That should recharge the batteries.

    Go Kings

  52. Andrew says:

    @KingsFanSince74-75, I really enjyoed the Dallas crew. They weren’t homers, they were VERY complimentary towards the Kings and loved that big shout out to Bob. Oh and the 5 mins they sat there shaking their heads on that faceoff penalty. Of course it was all the sweeter since we got the 2 points. :)

  53. What's the frequency, Kenneth? says:

    @Andrew, listening to those guys was a pleasant change of pace from some of the homers we have to listen to on Center Ice to get the occasional game that FSW doesn’t cover (and I’m so thankful Center Ice usually has a choice of broadcasts now!)

    They weren’t the best, technically, but we’re spoiled in that regard, and they really were complementary to the Kings (and rather objective about the penalty calls!)

  54. What's the frequency, Kenneth? says:

    @billanthony, funny how that works out. Turns out the Kings still have a better road record, so that may not work out as well, but Phoenix has a much better home record, so it should hurt them quite a bit–or so we hope.

  55. c-nut says:

    @Bob Bobson, I think we have a system that Modin can do pretty well in, plus he probably wants to stay on and not be a “rental”. As long as his play continues to be good, keep him.

  56. erwin says:

    We should trade Jones for last pick(the very last() of this coming draft,the guy doesn’t deserve to be in the line up. Peter Harrold is way more mobile than him, Harrold read the play better.
