Bernier postgame quotes

Jonathan Bernier’s postgame thoughts…

(on his game…)
BERNIER: “I got a piece (of the puck) on the first one, on my goal. I read it good, but it just went through my glove and my body. It was a nice play by them. It was a good two points on the road, that’s for sure.”

(on his last shootout…)
BERNIER: “It’s been a while. And that’s my first win in a shootout this year. We had a lot of 12 guys [long shootouts] and we couldn’t score, so it feels good to get the W in the shootout.”

(on any nerves…)
BERNIER: “I was nervous at first. Only one practice, so I didn’t know the timing and stuff. I felt better when the game was going on, in the second and much better in the third, for sure.”

(on his good rebound control…)
BERNIER: “I was seeing the puck pretty good, too. They had a few tips, but other than that, it was straight to my chest from the point, so I just tried to control the rebounds.”

  3. #1faninvegas says:

    Good Job Bernier!!! The boys played well infront of you too!!!

  4. Little Willy says:

    @#1faninvegas, except for od who ruined yet another shutout !!! that s 4 now i think???

  5. Good teams win games even when not playing their best. The Kings weren’t great tonight, but found a way to get the two points. There was one play during the first five minutes, where Bernier struggled with a shot that almost trickled in, but he really settled down the rest of the game and looked so calm. Quick is still our guy, but it’s great to FINALLY have depth at the goaltender position. I thought the Stars played a good game, but the Kings just have their number! Great win!!

    @Hockey SureShot,

    It was not that long ago that the Stars had OUR number lol!

  7. #1faninvegas says:

    @Little Willy

    I never lay blame on anyone as long as there is a “W” to the Kings

  8. #1faninvegas says:

    @vindogla,

    thats cuz not long ago, we really sucked

  9. Little Willy says:

    @Hockey SureShot, STARS were flying out there!! KINGS are hockey’s answer to boxing s ROPE A DOPE!!!

  10. Little Willy says:

    @#1faninvegas, TOO TRUE!! but are u not worried about od s game lately though??

  11. Jeff Hoffman says:

    It was good to see the game on Center Ice. I was impressed with him big time and also enjoyed the Dallas announcers. They are pretty unbiased which is nice to hear when watching another teams crew.

  12. #1faninvegas says:

    @Little Willy,

    yea, but you know, OD is getting older, and hes near retirement. I dont see him playing another 2-3 years. This season or next will be his last. I think hes just excited for the chance to be in the play-offs. With the way we are playing lately, maybe the Kings will get the cup this year, and he’ll decide to retire. Ya never know. He’s just been off a few times, but you never know. He’s still played better than some!!!

  13. Little Willy says:

    @#1faninvegas, i agree but teams with speed are killing poor od lately !! maybe he needs a rest before playoffs?? i still believe he s doin more good than bad!!

  14. #1faninvegas says:

    @Little Willy,

    I agree, but Id say, clinch the play-off spot, than sit him out to rest for the play-offs, and recall Voynov. I really want to see this kid. He did great in my NHL 2010 game season, and I want to see him in real life!!

  15. Bob Bobson says:

    @Jeff Hoffman, It’s unfortunate the only times we are forced to endure crappy announcing for Kings games is when they play in ANA. Hayward is a self-admitted tool for that organizatin.

  16. BringBackTheShieldJersey says:

    You know who Bernier reminds me of? Tretiak. With the way he tucks one bent leg next to the other, still straight, leg, to close the five-hole. Odd, in this age of butterfly goalies, how noticeable this technique is, you just don’t see it too often anymore.

  17. @#1faninvegas, Ha! We also had like ten goalies play one season! The Dallas announcers always got a kick out of that.

  18. Kings win, Ducks lose says:

    Great night, Kings another win, Ducks another loss!

  19. blah blah says:

    @Bob Bobson,

    “Hayward is a self-admitted tool for that organizatin.”

    well said!

  20. Chris P. Bacon says:

    Weekend at Bernie’s

  21. Little Willy says:

    @#1faninvegas, LOL!!!!!!

  22. Little Willy says:

    @Bob Bobson, EDDY O for chicago is just as bad!! it s like chicago can t do no wrong!!!

  23. tantrum4 says:

    @BringBackTheShieldJersey,

    Woah…easy.

  24. #1faninvegas says:

    @BringBackTheShieldJersey,

    WHO??? WHO is TRETIAK???

  25. BringBackTheShieldJersey says:

    @tantrum4, wait wait wait, not that he’s as good as Tretiak, sh!t, never even thought that way. Just has a few techniques in common. I wouldn’t mind if he Was that good though.

  26. MrBrett7 says:

    @#1faninvegas, Not sure if serious????

  27. #1faninvegas says:

    @MrBrett7,

    ya, Im serious

  28. Steve S. says:

    If nothing else, having another goaltender this good makes things very interesting…

  29. granados says:

    @Bob Bobson, I agree, lol

  30. PakiFro says:

    @#1faninvegas, Russian guy. Played goal for central red army teams. i think he was in goal for the miracle on ice. also was the GM of this years team that left Frolov off and was subsequently squashed by Canada (yes, I believe Fro would have brought them gold :-P)

    He was quite the goalie apparently.

  31. historyguy says:

    @PakiFro, He was, by all accounts, the greatest goalie in the world during the 1970s-early 80s. Better than anyone in the NHL.

    He was in goal for the first period of the Miracle on Ice game, but got pulled (nobody could believe it, including Tretiak).

    He went on to be a goaltending coach in the NHL (for the Devils, I believe), and now runs a goaltending clinic.

  32. #1faninvegas says:

    @PakiFro,

    AHHH, OK, THANKS!!! Did he ever play in NHL??

    just wondering!!

  33. historyguy says:

    @Steve S., Things will get more interesting once either JB or JQ gets to the end of their contract. Quickie will get quite a raise, no doubt. Eventually the Kings may have to make a decision between the two and trade the other, as Quick won’t want to be demoted to backup, and Bernier is going to want his shot.

    All of that said, it definitely is a nice problem to have, and one the Kings have never had before!

  34. #1faninvegas says:

    @historyguy,

    OK! That is before my time, as I was born Feb. 26th, 1980!! So, now I know why I never heard of the guy!!! Thank you!!! BTW, since the NHL is doing regular season games overseas, why dont they do that in other places in the US. Id love to see the Kings and the team I hate the most ((coughs- sharks)) here in Vegas. LOL!! tired of seeing the damn AVES in the pre

  35. Kris says:

    Great game by JB! “The Future’s so bright, I gotta wear shades”

  36. #1faninvegas says:

    @Kris,

    LOL!!! I agree with you there too!!

  37. What's the frequency, Kenneth? says:

    @Jeff Hoffman, I noticed that too! They aren’t the greatest in the world, but they did seem to be pretty fair–they even griped about two penalties called on the Kings that should not have been called! They even called out Morrow for setting the pick that lead to their only goal.

  38. MOdin's way better than Halpern says:

    I watched the whole game on my computer and as a Kings Fan I felt confident in Bernier. He has been waiting so long to make his comeback and now he has done it. Congrats, Jon.

  39. Chuck says:

    Great win Bernier! A long time between wins, nice to get that 2nd NHL victory!! Looking forward to seeing more of Bernie next year!!!

  40. MOdin's way better than Halpern says:

    P.S- My man Modin played another strong game for the Kingers. He is a great addition to the team. Now that Williams is healthy, we have so much depth, its unbelievable.

  41. AZ King says:

    Bernier was great. I was definitely among those who thought it was a mistake to start him over EE, and I am more than happy to eat my words. However, watching him in the first period made me appreciate how much I’ve come to trust Quick this season. During those first few shots against I was on the edge of my seat hoping they weren’t in the back of the net, where I haven’t felt that way with Quick in a while.

    Let’s not lose perspective on what Quick has done for us all season.

  42. Tmik says:

    @AZ King, Well said. Quick has been solid.

    Berns played a great game, once he got composed and ready to stop the puck, but we would -not- be where we are without the quicker.

  43. @What’s the frequency, Kenneth?,

    The Dallas announcers are among the most impartial in the league, IMHO. It’s not that they don’t support their team, it’s that they make the effort to see plays/calls in an impartial way.

  44. @#1faninvegas,

    Nope. Tretiak is the consensus best goalie in the world who never played in the NHL…

  45. golak39 says:

    it really has nothing to do with tretiaks technique,and for most goalies isnt a technique to decrease the size of the 5 hole. of course he has to bring his knees together like any other butterfly goalie, but the reason one pad overlaps the other pad is not to decrease the size of the 5 hole. its because the pads are too high above the knees so u cant bring your knees together without overlaping the pads.i have to overlap mine. i dont necessarily like it but its the only way to keep your stance correct.
