Dustin Brown’s postgame thoughts…
(on the game…)
BROWN: “They’re a high-scoring team and they’ve got a lot of talent up front. They had 40 shots on goal but a lot of them were — I don’t want to say `easy’ — but outside shots. If you can’t stop them completely, you want to limit their grade-A scoring chances. They definitely had a couple of those, but when you play a team like that, they’re going to have those. It’s about trying to limit those to a few per game, and I thought we did a pretty good job.”
(on getting one point at this point in the season…)
BROWN: “We’ll take it. We want two, but at this point in the year, you take whatever you can get. I thought we battled hard. One mistake and it’s in our net, but mistakes happen in the game. If we don’t make that mistake, maybe we go to a shootout and win, but we battled hard. It just didn’t go our way.”
(on playing a solid game against an elite team…)
BROWN: “I thought we played a pretty good game. Quickie played really well for us. I thought we played a pretty solid game. We scored two goals in the second, but I think that, overall, they had a lot of O-zone time. After they got their second goal, they kind of dominated the second half of that period. But it was back and forth. Like I said, they’re a high-powered offense. I’m not sure if we have quite the same offense they do, but we definitely have a sound defense. That was a fun game to play in.”

Sharp’s first and Versteeg’s goals were in part a result of Brown’s horrendous coverage. I think he’s still looking for his jock on the Versteeg goal.
Dang, Phoenix won, they’re officially 2 points ahead and we’ve got a game in hand.
They got to play Vancouver with Andrew Raycroft in nets while we got to play the Chicago Blackhawks, fun.
@AK47,
raycroft lets in 4 straight SO goals, and we face luongo when he makes highlight reel save of year against purcell. things dont seem fair
we are playoff bound life is good
next game is huge!….then again….so is every game at this point…
I really thought we were going to win. It was a hard fought game which a mistake made us lose. Bad pass by Richy. He didn’t even look before passing. If you look at the positives though, we held in and it was a back and forth game. We can definitely play with the elite. Now it’s time to execute a little better. We have to win a couple game in arrow so our place in the standing don’t slip. I really thought that if we won this game, it would make us stronger mentally.
Phoenix plays well at home (25-10-2) but average on the road (15-12-3). They have 9 of their next 11 on the road and only 4 more home games the remainder of the season. Getting the 4th seed will be important considering how well the Coyotes have played at home. But I fully believe the Kings will move into the 4th seed.
@Stop the Puck, Must be hockey.
Go Kings go!!
@kingme00, You mean Jones…He over played his guy twice leaving Brown to cover up for him. Versteeg goal was a result of Greene turning it over, then Jones taking the wrong guy. Brown did what he could but once Quick gave up the rebound , it was over.
@Scott P.,
Too bad that great home record isn’t seen by anyone in Pheonix
i’m so sick of the richardson hate. dude made ONE mistake. jj and jones, which is a terrible pairing FWIW, both jumped up on that play, and it was a highlight reel goal. people make mistakes. but if you’re going to keep complaining, cry me a river, build a bridge, and jump off. game’s over, everyone is already thinking of killing the stars.
@Scott P.,
I don’t even understand how Phoenix is doing well? Honestly, this is how I feel about Phoenix & Colorado this year
Phoenix + Colorado ‘09-10= Columbus + St. Louis ‘08-’09.
One hit wonders, Phoenix & Colorado might do well this year, let’s see what they do next season, both of them will get swept in the first round, like Columbus and St. Louis hahaha
Kings FTW
@20lucfan,
we’re going to actually destroy Dallas, i feel bad for them
@AK47, NEVER feel bad for the enemy. friendships are for before and after the game. :)
@20lucfan, Agreed! …So let’s see here… Smyth goes down and Kopi’s lost… that is until he’s on a line with Richie and Simmonds… etc etc etc fill in the blanks. The guy can play with, and open up a lot of space for, ANY of the more “skilled” players. Richie had a slow start point-wise but really is another one of those guys that the other team hates playing against. Hard work + Speed + Pest = a guy that’s hard for the opposing D to play against. They’re all gonna make a poor play/decision once in a while, but the fact is, like Zeus, he’s a huge piece of the puzzle!!!
This is our team, get behind them or go away!
GO KINGS!!!
@20lucfan, can’t speak for everyone, but I think there’s a big difference between “hate” and “that just wasn’t a smart play.”
i have two words for Terry Murray:
DAVIS DREWISKE.
very upset that there isn’t a single “obviously” in Browns post game quotes…Are you ommitting them on purpose Hammer? I smell a conspiracy. Are you reading this Jesse Ventura?
@McDonalds,
Attendance has been better all around. PHX is never going to be a hockey market, but there is a solid fan base here. I was reading somewhere that overall the viewership and attendance numbers up up pretty significantly from last year.
@AK47,
The main difference I see between PHX and COL this year, compared to the teams from last year, is they’ve been strong all season. They didn’t have a big 2nd half rush that got them into the playoffs at the last moment. They’ve been there from the beginning. I’ll give you that it’s suprising, but I think it’s far from a one-hot wonder
@Marc Nathan, I agree… Where, exactly, is Drewiske? Jones is just not cutting it.
I heard during the telecast last night that when Quick’s baby is born he’s taking some time off. What happens then? Bernier? Ersberg? Anyone know?
@Marc Nathan, Couldn’t agree more. I just can’t take watching Jones much more. He just can’t keep up with this level of play.
@Gregg, He MIGHT miss a game, and that’s it Gregg…players do that all the time, but it’s not like he is going to take 2 weeks off.
@Gregg,
If he misses a game, then Ersberg will start, and my guess is that Zatkoff will get brought up. No sense teasing Bernier with one game on the bench and a couple of long flights.
@Marc Nathan,
I really think its a matter of what type of defensemen he is. I think TM really wants another capable puck mover besides DD and JJ. Jones is a better one than DD squared.
BUT personally I would rather see Whiskey OR Harrold out there than Jones. The only sticking point is that like it or not, Jones puts up points… he is like Joey Corvo but without the cannon slap shot.
